109 years ago, Dr. James Naismith introduced the world to the game of basketball.  On December 1, 1891, after many weeks of speculation, Naismith unveiled his much anticipated invention during an ESPN special.




The first basketball hoop was constructed from a bushel-size peach basket.  This is why basketball became a winter sport.  Peaches were out of season so the baskets weren't being used.


In a related story, a study has confirmed that 109 years ago there began a national trend in naming male babies Lebron,  Kobe, and Shaquile.


Christine O'Donnell is back in the news.  She told Good Morning America that she would consider becoming a Democrat in 2012 so she could vote for Hillary Clinton in the presidential primary.  That's just what Hillary needs...help from a woman who serves corn flakes for a vegetable.


Chris Voigt, the man who heads up the Washington State Potato Commission went on a strict potato diet two months ago and lost 20 pounds.  That's after he set down the two 10# bags of russets he hauled home from work.


Remember a few weeks ago when former teen idol David Cassidy was arrested for DUI in Florida after police saw his car weaving across the road?  Now in court, David's claiming that was driving erratically because he has a vision problem called "wandering eye".  It would have been cheaper to pay the DUI fine because now he's been issued a fix-it ticket which means he has to take his eye in for a realignment job.


A new report shows that the IRS has paid out 112 million dollars in refunds to prison inmates who have filed fraudulent tax returns.   The IRS says it is committed to tracking these felons down and putting them behind bars.


According to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration, most prisoners' tax returns are not screened.   Man!  Talk about having faith in our prisons' rehabilitation system.


So if you need some extra cash,  find a way to get yourself thrown in jail before April 15th.


The good news is that private U.S. employers added 93,000 jobs in November.  The bad news is that they added them in India.

New York City has kicked off the Yuletide with the annual lighting of the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center.  The tree is decorated with 30,000 bulbs, which in the true spirit of the season, gives light and warmth to any homeless person standing within 5 blocks.
